All,
M Spurrell just had retractable belts fitted to my Alpine. 
The layout was inspired by a setup I saw at last years AGM.

You have to disconnect one belt end to raise/lower the hood, but it's quite easy with the coupler supplied. 

Not cheap, but my wife's health & well being is priceless.
