Hi Ernie et all We have a company here in the USA (Electron top ) that
has the patterns for both the Alpine and the Drophead they supplied the top
for Frank Jenkins "Special" they supply these in a modern material that is
very close in appearance to the original mohair and the quality and fit is
very good. They will only sell through their dealers of which I am one. If
there is no dealer near you or you desire to go through someone who is
knowledgeable about these tops I would be happy to order one for you and have
it drop shipped. The tops list for $700. and can be made in several colors
and even different materials from the original if desired. They
manufacture only the fabric part - no hard parts or frames.
I also do installations if your car is nearby

Subject: Mk I Alpine Top
Greetings to our members lists.
Does anyone know if there is a company that fabricates the convertible
top, in a do it yourself (installation) kit, that replicates the original top
for the '53 Mk I Alpine? I have only some scrap bits of fabric that is
still attached to the front header bow and snatches of fabric where the screws
are in the folding bows. The back hold down is still covered in the tube
type sewn sheath but that is the only fabric I still have. (My car came with
out any top parts or bits).
I have had the good fortune to be able to accumulate all the necessary
hardware for my Alpine, with the wonderful support of our members and some
contacts that they supplied, over the last 3 years. Many thanks to those who
helped. PJKrueger & Bob Hamilton have been the most instrumental in the
major components.
The only unfortunate part is that I have no viable patterns and I suspect
that a custom made top would be drastically expensive? And not to original
design?
Any help with solving this part of my rebuild would be greatly
appreciated. If anyone has a contact name and email address, phone number or postal
address they could forward to me, it would be greatly appreciated.
I suspect it is unlikely that anyone would have a top kit available that
they would be willing to part with??? Is there?
Many thanks for your continued support, and all my best wishes for this
year.
Ernie Taube in Calgary Alberta , Canada.
