      iv'e just got back from a classic car meeting in purleigh, essex and have seen that part without doubt. it is a door pocket on a fifties humber hawk for sure.

hi all

 

thanks for everyone's input............. here is what i can tell you............

 

it IS NOT a glove box insert - too  big........

 

it is bigger than the metal inserts that go into the doors.......

 

it is not home made....... has some imbedded clips in it, etc., etc., that definitely indicate some sort of commerical part........ it also has quite a bit of age to it........

 

a mystery at this time...............

 

(i take it that there was never any sort of "option" that might, for example, fit into the little compartments behind the seats, or??????)

I agree with Martin, that is not a genuine ST part. It appears homemade as staples have been used to hold it together, in the original dashboard cubby hole they used rivets and the cardboard is a brown/grey colour. The finish inside was applied after it was made as far as I can tell. There are no dimensions given but it could be a home door cubby hole which originally was metal.....
