In 1955 I was living in the U.S and bought a second hand (used)
ALPINE MK 1 - S registered in New York Q U 9022.
It was BLACK !
According to ROOTES data it was the ONLY black one sent to the States, Chassis N° A.301.5176 LRXS
I left the U.S in 1956 having sold my "Black Beauty."
I had driven it from the Atlantic to the Pacific, through some 25 states and back to N.Y without it missing a beat.
For 53 years I treasured my coloured slides hoping one day to find another car like it.
In March last year this happened and now its lengthy rebuild is progressing near VERSAILLES (France) where I live.
According to the hand written Rootes records this car was built on March the 12th 1954 just a week before my "american" one.
So, if the STAR'S are bright, one of you out west has Black Beauty to-day, even if her mane has turned grey with age, I would be very pleased to hear about her.
